The Island where I live
By Dennis Brooks
I live on a small island in the Thames Estuary in North Kent called 'the Isle of Sheppey'. The island is basically half housing and half countryside. It contains one of the biggest wetland bird reserves in the UK and is regularly visited by ornithologists from all over the world all year round. Apart from that there is a lot of historical association around the Island, Minster Abbey is one of the oldest Abbeys in the country dating from AD 675, there is very little of the original building left. There is also a dockyard that was used by Admiral Nelson and many other famous people of the period. There is also Queenborough, that was the main town on the island until the late nineteenth century. |
